2024 Winner - Rachin Ravindra, Cricket
Rachin Ravindra made history as the youngest recipient of the New Zealand Cricket Sir Richard Hadlee Medal, recognizing his outstanding performances across all formats. In the ICC Cricket World Cup, he was the fourth leading run-scorer with 578 runs, including three centuries and two half-centuries. He scored New Zealand’s highest-ever maiden Test century with 240 against South Africa, securing the team’s first-ever Test series victory over South Africa. Ravindra also significantly impacted T20Is, with a memorable 68 off 35 balls against Australia. His consistent performance and contributions underscore his exceptional talent.
Open to any sportsperson who has excelled as an individual or as part of a team in one or more sports and whose level of achievement represented the Greater Wellington region. This award recognises two athletes, one at a community-based level and one at a performance-based level. Achievements by nominees will only be considered if they have occurred during the qualifying period of 1 April 2023 to 1 April 2024.
